Through their social interactions, playing, singing, and participation in a variety of activities, preschoolers gain skills which ultimately help them to learn to read and write, as well as to build math and science skills. They also learn “school readiness” skills which help them to understand school routines and expectations for working individually and in groups.
Preschool classrooms are often organized by centers, or areas that are divided by different subjects and types of play. There may be centers for exploring books, counting and sorting objects, arts and crafts, building things and pretend play.
