These weeks of confinement certainly come with a set of variable challenges. Apart from finding a rhythm of working and schooling from home, the ascending dread and uncertainty take a toll on our mental and emotional health. It is difficult to be cut off from soothing in-person human contact with friends and family. Hugs, handshakes and other social rituals are taboo at the moment. Those who already suffer from anxiety or other mood disorders can be struggling even more. Elderly relatives and friends who already may have limited contact with others face deepening loneliness. Therefore, it is profoundly important during this time to take care of yourself and your families with renewed patience and gentleness with one another.

When nerves begin to fray, take a step back and take a few deep breaths before reacting. Validate your feelings, whatever they may be. Ask yourself, what do I need in the present moment. Try to remain calm and grounded, and take care of that need. This strategy also applies to children. Though they may have difficulty articulating their needs, their feelings and frustrations always can be validated. Providing assurances of your understanding can go a long way in preventing meltdowns.

We all have many challenging moments like this in the course of daily life. Now that the predictability of daily life is temporarily displaced, these moments undoubtedly will increase. So, be gentle with yourself and with one another. Keep in mind that we are in a difficult but temporary situation. This will pass in due course. We are not alone. We have each other and Our Divine Savior is with us. He will get us through.

Please feel free to reach out to me anytime! And remember:
