End of Year Letter from the Principal

May 30, 2018

Dear Families,
It is hard to believe how quickly the school year has passed and come to an end. I’d like to begin by thanking you for welcoming me to Seton and making this year memorable. I thank you for your faith, trust, and commitment to the mission of St. Elizabeth Seton School and your willingness to entrust your children to us. It is your belief in the values of Catholic education that help us sustain our school. We respect the sacrifices each family makes to send their child to St. Elizabeth Seton School, and we will continue to put your child first in everything we do! This was a busy and successful year and you as partners in education and faith formation have played a great role in making it a success.

Although it’s a hectic time of year, it is the time when I realize how blessed we all are to be part of the ministry of the church. Teachers and parents commit their time, talent, and energy every day to create a nurturing environment in which children thrive and feel safe. Hurricane Irma taught us lessons in patience and perseverance. Despite the damage to our school, the dynamic faculty didn’t allow the structural hardships to infringe on who we are. Irma may have damaged us, but she didn’t damage our core, our heart and spirit. We remain #SetonStrong. As we continue to rebuild, and improve our structure it’s a good time to reflect upon our forward movement and successes this year:

  • Seton received re-accreditation through the Florida Catholic Conference in November
  • We ran successful programs through the Home and School Association, Trunk-or-Treat, Father-Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Bowling, to name a few.
  • Seton made donations to Catholic Charities through our school’s “12 Days of Giving” Program,
  • We added Drama as a related art special for our middle schoolers,
  • NJHS attended the Lead Conference in Chicago in February and inducted 12 new members in April,
  • We successfully transferred our elementary building to temporary class rooms so renovations could begin,
  • Updated our Language Arts series in grade K-8, to a more rigorous challenging series,
  • Implemented Diocesan wide Language Arts and Math Standards,
  • We continue to score above average on national standardized tests,
  • Raised over $95,000 from our annual dinner auction which increased security at the school,
  • Seton girls Volleyball and Soccer teams won the Sunshine Athletic Conference championships!
  • Held successful middle school Religion NET retreat,
  • Held a 6th grade religious vocation retreat at St. John Neumann and,
  • 90% of our 8th grade graduates enrolled at St. John Neumann.

In closing, I’d like to once again say thank you. This has been a wonderful school year, filled with challenges and great memories. Our collective efforts have, I’m sure, made us all in need of some rest. I wish you peace, relaxation, and enjoyment these summer months. Those families not returning will continue to be in our prayers as you make your journeys to new places. I will be in touch over the summer with news about new staff, back-to-school events, and more. I am grateful to you and will be praying for you and your family. Have a wonderful summer.

With blessings,
Maria Niebuhr, M.A. | Principal
