IOWA Testing – 2nd – 8th Grade

Dear Parents,

Beginning March 5th, students in grades 2-8 who attend Catholic elementary schools in the Provence of Florida will participate in the Iowa Assessment Tests. The testing sessions are scheduled from Monday, March 5th-Friday March 16th. This includes plenty of time for any make-up testing that needs to be done. Homework will be light as possible during this time.

The Iowa Assessment tests are standardized achievement tests that are taken by children all over the nation. The main purpose of the Iowa Assessments is to provide the school with information that can be used to improve instruction and to help teachers make sound educational decisions about each student’s learning. The scores allow teachers to observe students’ year-to-year growth and achievement as measured by this assessment. The tests assess fundamental skills in the areas of vocabulary, word analysis, language, reading, listening, and mathematics.

The results from the Iowa Assessments are not used to grade students or for any other purpose than to monitor students’ learning of many of the important skills taught here at St. Elizabeth Seton School. Scores from tests like the Iowa Assessments cannot replace daily class work or other ongoing assignments, but they can provide useful supplementary information for the teacher, the parent, and the student. When the results are used in conjunction with other information from both the classroom and the home, teachers and parents can work together to identify and address the individual needs of each child.

Testing sessions will be first thing in the morning. The best preparation for the Iowa Assessment is a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast, and be on time. Children will not study for these tests. Please make every effort to have your child well rested and in attendance for testing.

We expect to receive the Iowa Assessment results sometime in April and you will receive a copy of your child’s report. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, Mrs. Winter, or me.

Blessings,

Mrs. Niebuhr

WHEN ARE WE MOVING TO THE PORTABLE CLASSROOMS?

This is becoming the million dollar question!! As you will notice portables have taken over much of the parking lot and assembly is close to complete. Electricians, plumbers, IT contractors, communications, permits, inspections etc. are all in the works. TENTATIVELY- we are scheduled to have movers begin moving the contents of classrooms on Friday, March 9th. This will be a 3 day process beginning Friday and require us to cancel classes for the day. School will be closed and will reopen on Monday the 12th. Please note that this date is tentative and may change to the following weekend if inspections are still needed. In the meantime, we are creating new procedures for safety, morning drop off, afternoon pick up, arriving late, early dismissal, morning prayers, restroom breaks etc. We will publish these procedures closer to our move in date.
