A note from the Principal

Dear Seton Families,

Wednesday, the nation experienced another horrific shooting of students and faculty at a school resulting in the deaths of 17. The devastation to the community is difficult to understand and breaks the heart. Our prayers were sent at 2 o’clock yesterday when all the schools in the diocese prayed a decade of the rosary. Additionally, our school is preparing cards and letters to those affected by this most recent tragedy.

As a school, we continue to keep the safety and well being of our students a priority. We continually review and update our emergency procedures. Our teachers are prepared and know what to do in case of an emergency. The school will hold a lock down drill this coming week. In addition, we are working on the evacuation and emergency procedures when we move to our portables. We intend to work with the local law enforcement to evaluate our safety concerns before we move our students to portables. There will be a full fire alarm system and the temporary campus will have a fence all around. As always, students will be escorted by faculty and staff when moving outside of the gated areas. Once in our temporary elementary building, drills will be practiced to ensure everyone knows our new procedures. These will be ongoing and continuously evaluated.

Finally, the topic of school safety and security will be on the agenda at the next school advisory board meeting at the end of February.
Please know that the safety and security of our students is our primary concern. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any comments or suggestions.

With Blessings,
Maria Niebuhr
Principal
